THE BEGINNING.

Have a seat under the truth tree. Eden Burns was the toughest thing I've ever done. Not making it. Putting it out there.
I have muzzled myself and held myself back for years because I had to be "ready." My work had to be "perfect." Eden Burns is a deeply personal story to me, of how people deal with loss differently, and it is a tale of being marooned in a landscape of depression as much as it is a post-apocalyptic one. I learned a lot making this film, chief among those is that "ready" and "perfect" are a fool's illusions.  I'm putting this film out there not as much as an expression of art but as me committing those lessons so I can move on and keep learning and getting better.

I stubbornly wanted to write, direct and edit a film that I acted in and served as cinematographer, for the sake of economy and probably ego. Did the film suffer because I wore all those hats? Yes. It cost $160 to make. At most, I had a crew of 2 to help me on various scenes, but it was mostly just my wife and I and I count this and our building a BBQ together as proof that we can survive anything. Out of fear, I nearly strangled this film to death as I tried to lovingly let it breathe. I hope it finds new life out of my hands.

That's my story behind Eden Burns. I hope you enjoy it.

I'm planning a second short film, The Meat It Feeds On, which takes place in the same world as Eden Burns. I am also  writing a novel within this world, called Empire of Dirt. The goal is to use these 2 films as proof to publishers that there is an audience for it.  This world is an amazing sandbox to play in, and I'm having so much fun discovering what this scenario would to do different people in different cultures around the world.

I want you to come along for the ride! If you liked Eden Burns, please enter your email address below so I can keep you in the loop as things start moving and shaking on The Meat It Feeds, On, Empire of Dirt and other short films and stories I'll be producing. I promise not to send you any emails pretending to be a Nigerian Prince or pester you with my musings of the day.

Thanks for watching!
